January 29, 2010

In this post you will find few tips about how to patching holes in drywall. Different contractors prefer different methods. We asked our contractors for the best way to patch 2 holes in drywall. First is is 6x6 inches, then about 3 inches below is a 4x4 inches hole? You can see what they say:

Lukas: In paint stores you can find adhesive patches that stick on and then mud over. In our local store they are selling them in 4x4 and 6x6 inches versions. The other way is to screw few wood blocks across the inside of the hole and than screw a patch to the blocks.

Nathan: You can put small amount of mud around the edge of the patch and the hole in the wall. Wipe all excess so the patch can't bulge out. Allow it at least 12 hours to dry completely before coating again. You can speed up the process by using setting type compound.

Tony: For small projects we are using clips. They are great and also cheap. First you slide clips onto the drywall already in place and drive a screw in. Now you can cut new piece of drywall patch and put it in place. Then you have to screw it to the clips and then the tabs on the clips break off. This method is very fast and easy, it also leaves a flat surface to tape and mud.

Randy: First you have to cut a piece of drywall 4 inches bigger then the hole. Turn over to the back side of the drywall cut paper on back 2 inches or little more in around the sides bend. Now you have a piece that will fit the hole and have paper side to mud. It also contain no wood or other things need mud edge of hole put you piece in place mud like any taped seam.
