Water Saving Tips Cheap and Easy

Every day, we can do many simple and practical things to save water and money. The most important thing is to check for leaks in pipes and taps. One leaking tap can waste more than 2,000 liters a month. You can start when installing new water efficient taps or tap aerators. It is a cheap way to cut your water usage without even noticing. You can also read our cheap energy saving tips and save even more money.

Many dishwashers can use up to 40 liters of water per load. You can get this down to 18 if you use at least a three star/AAA rating 1 dishwasher. Dishes will be still clean as they used to be. In addition, it will be best if you wait until you have a full load in your dishwasher before starting it. If you have a load adjustment button, you can try to set it to match with the amount of washing you are planning to do. This will save you water and energy.

Do not forget about safety if you have an emergency. Make sure that everyone in the house know where is the master water shut-off valve. This will save you many gallons of water if a pipe break down or burst. Test if you can turn in on and off, because it can be old and rusty.

You have to lag your pipes to avoid bursts and leave your heating on a low setting while you are out in winter or in cold weather to prevent pipes freezing. Do not forget about hot water pipes insulation too. Water is wasted when taps are running whilst waiting for the water to get hot enough. If there is a long pipe run between your hot water tank and the sink, installing a new separated water heater can save you money.
